Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Annual Kids’ Fun Run

The event brings as many as 800 local area elementary school students to MSU from Oktibbeha and 13 surround counties, to run a 1-mile course after taking part in a curriculum that promotes physical activity and healthy living. This year’s run will be on Saturday, April 4th – or Sunday, April 5th if Saturday gets rained out. Volunteers go through a BCBS training the day before the run and show up at 7:30 am on the day of the run. It usually wraps up at around 10-10:30 am.

Volunteers will need to register at www.getreadytorunms.com Volunteer registration will not open until February 1, 2020.

Volunteers will HAVE to attend a training sessions before the fun run event. Volunteer training sessions will be held every thirty minutes from 2:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, in the Sanderson Center Classroom. Volunteers will select a training session when registering as a volunteer. If there are particular student organizations that need a special training session other than Friday, we can accommodate that as well.

Start line volunteers will direct the children down the start chute onto the course.
Finish line volunteers will distribute medals, distribute water and ensure parents present their parent/child claim ticket in order to release the child. Safety is our number one priority.
Course Marshal volunteers will cheer the children on along the course and ensure the safety of the runners.
Grade Run Leaders & Trailers will run the course with the children. Typically one leader and one trailer is assigned per grad
Note: Volunteers do not currently have an option to choose their volunteer role. I assign all of the volunteers their positions. I will try my best to accommodate requests I receive via email; however, I do not communicate the option to choose their volunteer role. In the future, we are hoping to allow volunteers to choose.

The volunteer check-in tent, along with the first-aid tent and our information tent, will be set up in the green lawn at the bottom of the hill near the Sanderson Center. Our start and finish line is in close proximity as well.
